Ichigoichie's rhythm-puzzle: you move a band through a stage on the beat, chaining steps so the song and the route land together.
About This Game
Backbeat is a puzzle, strategy, and music game from Ichigoichie, released March 16, 2023. You do not fight a boss with a sword. You place a band on a grid-like stage and move them so the route and the song agree. A wrong step is a broken bar, not a lost life bar in the usual sense.
The fantasy is being inside a track. Characters are musicians. Tiles, turns, and timing windows are the obstacles. You plan a path, play it back, and hear whether the arrangement worked. Strategy shows up in how you order the group and spend the board, not in a tech tree.
A session is a handful of stages and a song you will hum after you put the console down. Version 1.0.2 is the shipped build of that music-puzzle. Credits stay with Ichigoichie on both sides.
Pros
- Puzzles are scored by the ear: a good path sounds finished
- The band-on-a-stage fantasy is specific, not a generic block-pusher
- Short stages fit one more track before you stop
Cons
- If you wanted a fighting or adventure campaign, the loop is only puzzles-plus-music
- Missing a beat can mean replaying a stage you already understood
- The cast exists to play; there is no long story between songs
What's New
- Switch build 1.0.2 is the listed game version for this Ichigoichie release — the music-puzzle as shipped, not a new campaign chapter.
