A Hooded Horse settlement builder: you raise a town in a hostile forest, ride out the storm, then abandon the site and start again.
About This Game
Against the Storm is a strategy and simulation game published by Hooded Horse on June 6, 2024. You do not found one eternal city. You are sent into a cursed woodland, raise a camp before the weather turns, and then you go — the forest takes the site back.
A run is a settlement. Villagers need food, hearths, and work. You open glades, trade, and pick buildings that match the species you attracted. The storm is a clock: prestige and Queen orders push you to grow faster than is safe. Fail the mood or the timer and the settlement is a loss, not a save you nurse forever.
Between settlements you return to a smoldering citadel and spend what you earned on the next departure. The handheld loop is short towns, hard weather, and a forest that does not love you. The play is villagers in the rain deciding whether to cut one more tree.
Pros
- Each settlement is a full run, so a failure is a story, not a ruined save
- Species and glade events change the buildings you want
- The storm clock forces choices instead of infinite optimization
- The citadel meta makes a lost town still feed the next one
Cons
- You never keep a pretty town; the fantasy is leaving, not settling forever
- Orders and weather can feel strict if you wanted a calm builder
- Reading recipes and species needs a patient first hour
